This past weekend, DH, BB and I went on a trip to Blue Ridge, GA with DH's family. On the way up there, we drove through Atlanta. Not willing to pass up the opportunity, we stopped there to introduce BB to The Varsity.
If you're not familiar with The Varsity, it is the world's largest drive-in, covering over 2 acres. Located in downtown Atlanta by the Georgia Tech campus, The Varsity has been in business since 1928. There are additional Varsity locations in the Atlanta area as well as Athens, but the downtown location is the most well-known.
The Varsity has several traditions, from the lingo used to order your food, to the "What'll ya have!" bellowed out by the cashiers at the counter, to the red and white paper hats worn by the employees. The paper hats are also available to the patrons (and if you don't get a red hat to wear yourself, don't be surprised if an employee plunks one down on your head for you).
Another Varsity tradition are the names given to the menu items. For example, we had a Red Dog, a Yankee Dog, strings, and Varsity orange. For dessert, we had their famous (and delicious) apple pie.
BB enjoyed it all, but if you ask him, this was the best part of The Varsity:
Love the Varsity! Peach pies! Yum!
