Now that BB is in a toddler bed, he enjoys getting out of his bed to play or read before he goes to sleep and after he wakes up. He has a nightlight in his room, but it really doesn't give off enough light to see clearly by. There have been several times that he has awakened during the night and tried to look at his books quietly in his room, but the lack of light made it obviously too difficult. I wanted him to have a lamp that he could turn on and off by himself, but I hesitated to place a lamp where he could reach it. That was when I was struck by genius and bought this, which is actually made to turn Christmas lights on and off:
I connected it to the lamp in his room, and fastened the button on the side of his dresser. To make the cord less tempting to play with, I ran the rest of the cord under his dresser so that the cord is tight.
Now BB can turn his lamp on and off by himself, which is great for when he wakes up in the middle of the night. He no longer fusses about being in the dark, and I don't feel sorry for him if I hear him turning pages in his book at 2 AM. I had a few concerns that the light might make it too tempting to stay up and play, but I haven't noticed any problems during the past 2 weeks. We don't turn his lamp on before he goes to bed, and most mornings his lamp isn't even on. This solution might not work for all kids, but it sure works for me!
How smart! I wish I had known about this when my kids were little enough for nightlights!

I will remember this when we move our daughter into a big girl bed in a few weeks!

Neat idea! We bought lamps from IKEA that have a very easy switch plus it has a protective covering over the lamp part that looks like a spider web. Pretty cool for the boys.
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing the research. My Grandma is Czech and I wonder if the term was translated to cup towel instead of dish. My hubby's family looked like I was crazy the first time I said to pass the cup towel. :)
Thanks for the comment.
Have a marvelous day!
genius! Have to remember that one!
ReplyDeleteGenius! (Haha, I see someone else also thinks so.)
