Zero the Hero

The weekend before we went to Florida, BB attended a super hero birthday party. Since he isn't really into super heroes just yet, I got to pick his costume :) Given his love of Schoolhouse Rock, Zero the Hero seemed appropriate.

I modified a pair of zip-up pajamas for the outfit. A piece of yellow felt was used for the zero. His cape was just some red fabric sewed onto the collar, but a pillowcase would have worked just as well. I gathered the sewn end of the cape to make the cape fuller. Since I couldn't find a pair of solid red briefs, I painted underwear onto the costume. I used the brightest red I could find, and several layers, but I still couldn't match the red to the cape. It would have been easier to have sewn a pair of underwear, but I was trying to avoid adding another layer of clothing. The party was outdoors, so I didn't want my superhero getting too hot! For the boots, I found a pair of hightops at Goodwill and DH spray painted them white. The white socks are supposed to go all the way up to the bottom of his pants, but they wouldn't stay.

BB has reached the age where he will ham it up for the camera.

I love this picture - it looks like he feels bad about hitting The Incredible Hulk (the green wore off), but nothing actually happened before the shot was taken.

He REALLY liked the Tootsie Rolls that were inside the pinata! All in all, I think the party was a success. Now if only I can decide where I'm holding his 3rd birthday party - in less than a month!
