Yesterday was cast-off day for BB. After 5 weeks of the spica cast, we were more than ready! Here is BB right before we went to the doctor to get the cast sawed off. He's giving me a thumbs-up that his cast is going bye-bye:
BB did a lot better than expected as they were sawing the cast off. He fussed and cried, but it was more over the fact that he was being held in place. He kept saying "all done!" as they were sawing the cast off. Once the cast was off, we were amazed at how dry his skin was. We expected flakes, but this was deeply dry skin. We've been slathering him with lotion several times a day, and already he's looking much better.
When you haven't had a bath in over 5 weeks, you get pretty excited when you get back in the tub. BB sat in the tub for probably 2 hours yesterday. DH drained and filled the tub several times. I think the warm water felt good to his legs. He's acting like his legs are a bit sore, which is to be expected.
Once BB was out of the tub, he didn't really know what to do with himself. I was amazed at how small he looked out of his cast. He sat on the couch for a while before he decided he wanted down to play.
He's really happy that this whole ordeal is behind us! He's not moving much yet, just army-crawling or scooting on his bottom. His doctor said that he'll walk within a week, while orthopedic websites said he would walk within 1-4 weeks.
DH is taking the rest of the week off, so I expect we'll be out and about a good bit these next few days. It's so nice to be able to leave the house all together!
