While wondering around Books-a-Million Saturday night, I noticed the Twilight books that Jen is constantly referencing on her blog. I'd been intrigued, but I feared that the books were like Harry Potter.
I decided to just get the first book, Twilight, and read it to get an idea about the series. I was pleasantly surprised by the book. Other than 2 "mild" cuss words and some deceit, there's nothing offensive in the book. I went on to read the other three books in the series, and I was pleased and impressed. There are approximately 2 cuss words in each book, but that's all. Be warned, however - this book series is highly addictive. No housework took place during the reading of this series!
I must thanks to Jen for her repetitive references to this series. I'm really glad that I didn't read these books when they first came out, because now I only have 9 days until the movie comes out!
I've been wondering where you have been. Now I know....reading !!

ReplyDeleteOk, don't be offended, but...you've got to be kidding me! I've seen excerpts of the books, and I think it's absolutely absurd! The language, not cussing, the actual language they use is one of the most painful things I have ever read! To each his own...!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking, our writing style preference just must be very different- I like Austin, you like Bronte! We at least both enjoy Lewis. :)
ReplyDeleteI read them too, and I liked them, but I don't consider myself a "Twilighter." I do remember being quite addicted though while reading them. Also, I was very intrigued with the setting and history of the local Indian tribe.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I could bring a little excitement (and distraction) to your life!
ReplyDeleteI'm not normally one to get so caught up in something, but I have.
I think it has a lot to do with where I am in life right now... 2 years ago or even a year ago I may not have been so addicted... does that make sense??? :)
You got sucked in too? I tell ya it's an epidemic.
ReplyDeleteZ: I do not like Bronte, so I don't know where you got that from. To me, the writing style is typical of young adult fiction. There are a few passages that are phrased oddly, but I would attribute that to Meyer's attempt to make the vampires sound centuries old. The books actually make note of the fact that the vampires don't talk like contemporary people. I do like Lewis, but mainly TCON, The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce. I've found most of his other works, such as The Abolition of Man, very difficult to comprehend.
ReplyDeleteHeather: I, too, don't know if I am really a Twilighter or not. I'm not going to collect things that capitalize on the movie(s), and depending on how the movie turns out, I may not admit that I even saw the film! I did really like the books, though. It was nice to escape for a few days. :)
Oh, I really thought you did like Bronte! Sorry :) Well, that's good because I can't get through her stuff. So difficult! I find some of Lewis's stuff hard to get into too, but I LOVE his writing style, and that's what I was talking about.
