Be It Ever So Humble...

Heather over at Want What You Have has invited her readers to give a photo tour of their homes. Since I rarely have people over (4 times in 3 years) I thought I'd join in. I live in a townhouse, so there's no yard. I also only 2 parking spaces, which accounts for not having company over. We always enter through the front door, which opens directly into the living room.
The theme of my living room is music. The fact that there's a piano in the room made that theme pretty easy. There are records above the doorways, and one of the guitars is in the corner next to the TV. There are a lot of family pictures throughout my house, that I hope to one day display all on a wall in my future bigger house.
Next to the entertainment unit is the doorway that leads to BB's room. In case you can't tell, the theme of his room is cars. The boy loves cars! Our bedrooms have attached bathrooms; BB's bathroom is done in a Snoopy theme. DH hand-stenciled the bathroom walls for me when I was pregnant with BB.The living room is also home to our computer. Right next to the computer is the doorway that leads to the kitchen. If you look to your right, you will see our table, my desk/dish hutch, and the shelf that I keep kitchen linens on. Upon entering the kitchen you will see to your left, the cabinets and appliances. Due to a typo in the pre-sale agreement, all appliances came with our house. The builders had fully stocked our house because it was originally the model for potential buyers to see for our particular floor plan. They had planned to move all blinds and all appliances but the stove and dishwasher out, but had listed the house to be sold "as is." Thanks to our real estate agent, who noticed the typo and argued the point, we got to keep everything (it probably also helped that we bought one of the last units on the street).

I painted the walls bright yellow in my kitchen to show off my Currier and Ives dishes that I have displayed. The natural finish of the cabinets isn't the best complement for the yellow, but I figured that it's easier to repaint the walls than it is to paint cabinets. Currently, the top of my refrigerator is full of glass items, but I plan on finding something to do with them and placing more of my dishes out on display.

One of the things I like about my kitchen is the pantry. After moving in here from a single-wide trailer, I couldn't get over all of the room I had to store food! I should add that my pantry isn't normally anywhere near this neat.
On the same wall as the kitchen table is the doorway to my bedroom. This is the only room that doesn't really have a theme. I have my old furniture from my parent's house, some other furniture that I've picked up here and there, various childhood knickknacks, and framed Norman Rockwell prints. My room is my least favorite room in my house. I keep telling myself that when we get a bigger house I will put most of this stuff in the guest bedroom and actually decorate my bedroom. Like BB's room, my room also connects to a bathroom. My bathroom is done in a travel across the U.S. theme, with vintage postcards and other items decorating the room. I haven't been able to travel too much, but someday I'd like to. DH and I talk about taking a summer and driving to the West coast, stopping at places along the way and camping at different state parks. I doubt he'll ever have that much vacation saved up, but it's a lovely idea.

If you leave my bedroom and turn right, you will be in the hallway leading to the backdoor. We have a tiny little patio and storage room out back, which I'm not even going to bother taking a picture of. The storage room is absolutely packed with camping gear; I feel sorry for us if we ever have to reach the hot water heater in a hurry! On the left side of the hallway is the laundry room. Very tiny, but it's nice to have a place to keep cleaning items, tools, etc. that you can close out of sight when company comes. Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I love your dishes in the kitchen. Blue dishes on yellow walls are so pretty!

The records above the doorways are cool--what a neat idea!

I also really like the pale green in your bedroom. I'm very into that color right now.

Thanks so much for sharing your home with us!

  2. Your house is so cute! I love the snoopy bathroom.

We're trying to get ours staged for sale and it's a bigger job than I expected. I guess I could be blogging about it.

Thanks for inviting us over via the blogosphere!
